New Prism Star Pokemon Cards from SM5!

The next Pokemon TCG expansion will be Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (in Japan). The new set will be released on December 8th in Japan, and in February in the United States. It will contain some great new Pokemon cards with the Prism Star mechanic. The set will contain cards similar to the old Shining cards from Generation 2, since you won't be able to have more than one Prism Star card with the same name in deck. While we're talking about the old Shining cards from Gen 2, they also had a limit of only one shining card per deck. The second part of the rule about the Prism Star cards is that once a Prism Star card is discarded, it goes in the Lost Zone.

Cards in the Lost Zone cannot enter the game anymore. This is a special discard pile - the mechanic was first introduced back in 2009 with the Platinum set and was in game up to the HGSS era. Back then, some Pokemon were also able to copy attacks from other Pokemon that were in the Lost Zone (Mew Prime as example). Solgaleo and Lunala were the first cards leaked from SM5 as the new Prism Star cards.

The new solgaleo looks strong - with 160 HP and a Rising Star attack for a single metal energy - it can attach a metal energy from your discard pile to your Pokemon in play in any way you like for each of our oppoonents Pokemon in play. (In theory up to six energy, in standard, and up to nine total in the expanded format with the help of the Skyfield). For four metal energy, the Corona Impact attack does 160 damage, however the next turn Solgaleo cant attack.  Lunala on the other hand can, for one psychic energy card, use the Full Moon Star attack for each of your opponents Pokemon in play.

Overall, some interesting new mechanics can help some specific decks and some older GX cards from SM Base set will likely become playable such as Lunala GX or Solgaleo GX! We are excited for this new set!
