The impact of Dragon Majesty and new strategies for the game

Hello everyone! This is Elena from Gaia Storm and welcome to another article here at CCG. Dragon Majesty, the latest expansion from Pokémon TCG became legal a couple of days ago, meaning that all cards that are included in this mini set are playable at every type of event. While Dragon Majesty is not a typical set in terms of quantity of cards, it has for sure some very worthy inclusions that will see play. Let’s take a look at some of the best cards!

Since the set is heavily focused in dragons (a clear wink to 2012 expansion Dragon Vault) we will start with cards from this archetype. The sturdy Dragonite GX is perhaps the most powerful of them, capable of dealing lots of damage for just one energy and resisting many hits with a massive 250 HP. In combination with Max Potion, it can for sure become difficult to take down once it has hit the field.

Next, we have the fluffy Altaria GX, a very interesting card that gains protection from GX Pokémon when using its first attack. Even if Altaria doesn’t hit very hard, its defense can be a very determining factor in certain matchups that heavily rely on GX attackers. In addition to Altaria GX, there is a regular Altaria in the set (almost a reprint of the one from Dragon Vault) that boost Dragon attacks in +20 damage. Stack some Altaria on the bench and even the slightest attack will become a nightmare!

And how do we play all those dragons? Lance Prism is the perfect answer, letting us play two Dragon Pokémon directly from our deck to our bench, regardless if they are basic or Stages. This means that Lance can suddenly transform into double Dragonite GX without Rare Candy even being used.

Water and type Pokémon also receive some interesting support. Quagsire is a card worth mentioning since its ability lets the player move water energies freely and thus being able to employ different strategies through the game. Fire, on the other hand, gains some energy acceleration with Fiery Flint and an interesting attacker with Reshiram GX. Victini Prism can be a good way to recycle all the energies and swing for the last prizes.

All in all, Dragon Majesty might not be as impactful to the metagame as Shining Legend was one year ago with the release of Zoroark GX but it has some potential. So be sure to get the cards you need from the set here at CCG before they go!
