Ultra Beasts are here!

Beware! The Ultra Beasts arrive to the TCG - Buzzwole and Kartana!

Hello everyone! I am Elena from Gaia Storm TCG and it is a pleasure to be writing for you today. On this occasion, we are going to analyze the Ultra Beast archetype that has finally arrived to the Trading Card Game. Will these cards fulfil all the expectations many players have had? Let’s take a look at these two cards that truly stand out among their kind!

We will start with one Pokémon that will definitely see some play. Buzzwole GX is a renewed version of Landorus GX, that retains all the features that made Landorus shine in its own format a few years ago. Buzzwole is a basic Pokémon, quite difficult to take down with its 190 HP, that spreads damage across the board with its first attack. This attack is not only extremely cost-efficient, but is also important given that it helps to reach numbers in the late game, or even by pulling off an Espeon EX play. Buzzwole’s two remaining attacks deal massive amounts of damage, but they require 3 fighting energies, something can be a bit difficult achieve. Because of this, Buzzwole will be played mainly to exert early pressure in the first turns of the game while backed up with secondary attackers. The main downside of Buzzwole is of course its weakness to Psychic (ever heard of a Pokémon named Garbodor?) but I would argue that it doesn’t make the card unplayable. And, let’s not forget the support that is currently available for fighting types with their own special energy!

Moving on, Kartana GX is probably one card worth finding space for in certain decks. Contrarily to Buzzwole, this Pokémon isn’t mean to have a whole strategy revolving around, but its versatility can make it fit in different decks. Kartana has a good ability paired with two cool attacks. When benched from the hand, it discards a special energy in the field that can be quite useful against certain pairings. Then, for 1 DCE and a metal energy, Kartana deals 70 damage and can returns to the deck with everything attached to it. Now, if this attack did 20 more it would be just insane but with “only” 70, Kartana can’t sadly KO Gardevoir GX in one hit even with Choice Band. Still, a good chunk of damage! And everyone’s favourite feature is, no question, the GX attack. For a single energy it lets you take one of your prize cards… just like that!

Once Crimson Invasion becomes legal, we will be able to see the true impact of the Ultra beasts. Both Buzzwole GX and Kartana are available at CCG CASTLE, so don’t forget to get them here as well as many other cards from the latest set! See you soon!
