Rebel against the metagame! The versatility of Silvally GX

Hello everyone! I am Elena from Gaia Storm TCG and it is a pleasure to be back again. Today, I want to talk about one of the most versatile Pokémon from the past expansion: the unruly Silvally GX! Its colorless typing and unique set of abilities makes it a perfect candidate to fit in many decks nowadays. Let’s see some of them!

First of all, there are several powerful reasons why Silvally fits in many decks. To begin with, it provides free retreat to every basic Pokémon in your field (a permanent float stone? Where do I sign?) making it easier to switch and promote whatever attackers you feel like. However, Silvally is a very solid attacker on its own, dealing 120 damage and attaching energies from the discard pile. And, of course, let’s not forget its most distinctive feature: its capacity to change typing with the Memory disks, allowing it to KO many different threats!

So, what are some cool combinations of this Ultra beast slayer?

One of the most hyped ones was Metal/Silvally, a deck that uses different metal type Pokémon such as Registeel, Celesteela GX and Magearna EX to create a very consistent strategy that is able to do perfectly well against the current metagame. With Gardevoir dominating the competitive scene lately, this deck was many players’ pick for the London International Championship. No surprise that it got several placements in top 32 and made its way to the finals!

Another strategy that received direct boost was none other than Volcanion EX. A huge downside of heavy fire hitters –such as Ho-oh or Volcanion- was their restriction to attack twice in a row so they always relied on switching cards like Guzma or Float Stone. Because of this, Silvally just makes life easier allowing the player to comfortably alternate between big Pokémon and baby Volcanion at will. And of course, there is also the fact that Silvally provides useful coverage against fighting and psychic-weak Pokémon.

The last type of strategy where Silvally can find a spot in is fighting. Although it might sound a bit weird at first sight, the truth is that builds combining Buzzwole and Silvally GX saw success at London, reaching day 2. Not worrying about Buzzwoles’s retreat cost comes in handy no matter the circumstance and the recycling of Silvally’s attack becomes an additional resource that can be used to power up fighting attackers on the bench.

Summing up, Silvally has revealed itself as a tremendous Pokémon with amazing capabilities that help a number of decks. What is more, with more support announced in the upcoming sets (lighting and fire disks), Silvally has the potential to become a great tool in the game. And its era has just started!
