Ultra Beasts!

What are they? To put in simply, they are regular Pokemon cards, just like any other, but they just have "Ultra Beast" in their name. There are seven ultra beast cards so far!

So let's check them all out! Guzzlord GX is the first one, and it is a darkness type Pokemon with 210 HP. Guzzlord GX is a very interesting card with the "Eat Sloppily" attack that can in theory attach 5 darkness energy to Guzzlord GX. However they must be in the top 5 cards, since they have to be discarded. The GX attack is interesting since it can take two extra prize cards if the opponent's Pokemon will be k.o. with the "Glutton" GX attack. The base damage is 100, which is not that good, so I would give it about a 2 out of 5 for playability.

The next Ultra Beast is Buzzwole GX. and this ultra beast really is a beast! With 190 HP, this fighting type can Jet Punch for 30 with a single energy card and 30 to 1 of our opponent's Pokemon. With Choice band and strong energy this guy can hit for a single energy for 90-30 like the good old Darkrai GX. Insane, right? The Knuckle Impact attack for 3 energy cards for hits 160, and the Absorption GX for the same amount of energy hits for 40 for each of our remaining prize cards. On average let's give this one 4 out of 5 for playability, much better with Max Elixirs.

The next Ultra Beast is Pheromosa GX - a Grass type Pokemon with 170 HP. This one is a promo card and it also has three attacks, the first one is "Fast Raid" for a single energy card - i will do 30 damage and if we go first, we can use this attack on our first turn - not bad, right? Cruel Spike for 2 energy and 60 damage plus our opponents' active Pokemon is confused, and the last one - "Beauty" is a GX attack for 2 energy with 50 damage for each prize card our opponent has taken. Not that bad for the late game! Let's give this one a 3.5 out of 5 for playability.

Ok, let's check the lighting type Xurkitree GX with 180 HO and the Flashing Head ability. This one is also a promo card with an ability that says "prevent all damage done to Xurkitree GX from our opponent's Pokemon with any special energy attached to them". That's great, since every single deck these days in the standard format uses special energy cards. Use "Rumbling Wires" 3 energy for 100 damage and we can discard the top card of our opponent's deck and for a single energy. Lighting GX can be used, and we can just add one card from our opponent's hand to their prize cards. Playability is great at a 4.5/5.

Celesteela GX is the next ultra beast card, again a promo metal Pokemon with 200 HP. Use the "Rocket Fall" attack for 3 energy and 30 + 30 more for each retreat cost in our opponent active Pokemon. Four energy, and Moon Press can be used for 130. Blaset GX can be used for the same amount of energy for 180 attack, and we can turn all of our prize cards face up. Talking about playability, its not that great at an overall 2/5.

Moving on to the next metal beast Pokemon, this time we have Kartana GX, a 170 HP Pokemon with the "Slice Off" ability, a really interesting ability that can discard 1 special energy card from any of our opponents' Pokemon in play once it's been played, and with Acerola we can do that twice per turn. Gale Blade can be used for three energy cards, and it will do 70 damage. We can then shuffle Kartana GX and all cards attached to it into our deck, and Blade GX can be used for just a single energy card and we can just take a Prize card. Overall the playability is around a 3.5/5.

The last one is a Nihilego GX, an ultra beast Pokemon with the psy type with 180 HP and the "Empty Light" ability. (When we play this Pokemon from our hand or bench, we can leave both active Pokemon confused and poisoned). The Lock Up attack can do 120 damage for 3 psy energy cards, and the defending Pokemon can't retreat. The last attack for the last GX Ultra Beast today is the 'Symiont" GX attack, where we can add the top 2 cards of our opponent deck to the prize cards. Overall, a 3 out of 5 for playability.

That's our summary of the Ultra Beast Pokemon - we hope it helps in your game play and deck buidling strategies!
