Ultra Prism: Five reasons why the new expansion is amazing!

Hello everyone! I am Elena from Gaia Storm TCG and today’s article is going to be about the last Pokémon set: Ultra Prism!. I must admit that we haven’t had such an exciting expansion in a while and I can’t wait to see all the new strategies and decks that start appearing with the official launch. There are multiple reasons why this set is really good but I am just going to mention five of them. Do you agree?

1- New types of cards: One of the most exciting features of Ultra Prism is, precisely, that it includes a brand new type of cards called Prism Star. This new mechanic is somehow similar to Black and White era Ace Specs since only one copy can be played per deck. Prims Star cards come in form of Pokémon, Supporter and special energies so be ready to start seeing them as soon as they become legal!

2- Powerful GXs: So many different GX and so much potential in them! For me, Glaceon GX and its ability to shut down entire strategies is one of the unquestioned stars of the set but also Leafeon GX can become an incredible partner for evolutions. Then, we have the intimidating new forms of Necrozma (fused with Solgaleo and Lunala) and stunning full art versions of Ultra Beasts.

3- Metal goes meta: Although the first official tournaments where Ultra Prims can be played won’t take place soon, everyone is expecting metal types deck to make an appearance in the competitive scene due to all the support they have received in this set. Dusk Mane Necrozma is such an amazing attacker, Magnezone ensures a steady flow of energies and they even have energy recovery with their own stadium. Oh, and have I mentioned that Prism Star Cyrus and Solgaleo are incredible inclusions for the deck?

4- Capable non-GX attackers: GX won’t be the only Pokémon appearing on the metagame. Garchomp and Empoleon are two great Stages 2 that have earned some hype. Garchomp deals massive amounts of damage for 3 energies and has an amazing combo with Lucario. Then, Empoleon is a solid attacker that reaches high numbers depending on the bench and benefits from water support.

5- Cynthia: Stunning artwork, iconic character, amazing effect… Cynthia has it all. With an effect that is the same as Professor Oak New Theory, Cynthia will be a must-play in the majority of the decks. It offers a firm alternative to N and Sycamore, the only effective drawing supporters we currently had, and I have no doubt that it will become as popular as them

All in all, Ultra Prism seems to be one of the best expansions of the Sun and Moon era. Be ready to see how the metagame changes and don’t forget to pick your cards now at CCG before they fly!
