The Wilderness of Tapu Bulu!

Hello  everyone!

This is Elena from Gaia Storm TCG and it is a pleasure to be here once again. Today we are going to see a deck that, no surprise, seems to be gaining popularity as the format develops. Hated by some, loved by others, Tapu Bulu Vikavolt is a classical contender that recently has been chosen by many players to enter large tournaments. Let’s see why!

Vikabulu, as the deck is known, is based on a very simple but effective premise. Tapu Bulu is a powerful Pokémon that can deal 120 + 60 damage at the cost of discarding all energies attached to it. With a choice band, Bulu reaches the magic number in this format, 210, which happens to be Zoroark GX HP. Now, with such an aggressive Pokémon in your field, the route to go with Bulu will be to charge one attacker after another and seal the game with a few attacks. Vikavolt from Sun and Moon is the perfect partner given that it has the ability to charge grass and electric energies directly from the deck so you can immediately see the synergy between those two cards. As a result, the entire deck revolves around how fast you can set you Vikavolt.

Because of that reason, the structure of the deck is built entirely to obtain a combination of Vikavolt and rare candy by turn 2. Bear in mind that although the deck is supposed to get those cards it can brick from time to time. However, the moment Vikabulu starts rolling, it is one of the most difficult decks to stop.

Regarding the deck’s performance in the metagame I would say that it undoubtedly has potential. It is able to go hand in hand against Zoroark variants and kill basically anything in one hit. The match up against Buzzroc is tougher but can go either way depending on the amount of elixirs that Buzzwole whiffs. Since those two deck are the most played ones at the moment, it is no surprise that many players have opted to play Bulu again. Garbodor used to be one of the main problems that Bulu had but since it is less relevant than before, Bulu players no longer have to fear a Garbotoxin filled tournament.

In the picture above you can find a typical Bulu decklist and I heavily suggest to try it on your own and see he possibilities of the strategy! Thanks for reading and don’t forget to obtain those cards here at CCG!.
