Looking for strong rogue deck? No problem, try Luxray!

Hey Pokemon fans, we all hope you had a nice Christmas time. Today we decided to share one article with casual and those competitive players who follow’s us. Today we will talk little bit about the Luxray Item lock deck. This is not a top tier deck but this is a really nice and strong rogue deck that can bring a lot of problem to mainly any deck in the current standard format.

Luxray with Intimidating Fang ability can reduce damage done to our Luxray for 30, but it reduces attacks from our opponent’s active Pokemon for 30, meaning that our benched Pokemon can also take 30 damages less, so against spread decks Luxray is just must have!

Volt Bolt attack might seem to be a weak side in this deck since we need 3 energy cards to use it and then discard all lighting energy cards to hit for 150 one of our opponent’s Pokemon in play. However, with some other cards like Counter Energy, Counter Gain and Thunder Mountain, this attack can be used for less energy cost.

How? Let’s explain how. As long we have Thunder Mountain in play, any lighting Pokemon attack cost one lighting energy less. If we want to use Volt Bolt with Thunder Mountain in play, we just need to have now 2 energy cards attached to our Luxray. Remember if we have for example Memory Energy attached, then we can also use Luxio Disconnect attack and item lock our opponent’s. This is a main strategy of this deck. In early game we want to use Luxio’s Disconnect, item lock our opponent’s, set up strong bench with few Luxray’s in play and then attack or snipe bench with Luxray Volt Bolt. So if we have Thunder Mountain and Memory Energy attached to Luxray in order to perform Volt Bolt we just need to add one more lighting energy card and only discard that single lighting energy from our Luxray to hit for big numbers. With Electropower and Choice Band numbers can range from 150 up to 210+

On the other side, if we have more prize cards than Counter Energy and Counter Gain combo without Stadium can help us to also use Volt Bolt for just a single Counter energy!

This deck is a really nice deck and it’s even more stronger due to the new Memory Energy card that help’s Luxray to use Luxio’s Disconnect attack without having Shining Celebi on the bench. This deck can almost always use Luxio and Disconnect at turn one as long as we decided to go second since Shinx Evolutionary Advantage ability allows Shinx to evolve during our first turn if we go second.

Volkner is also nice add for this deck. It can help us to find energy card for Disconnect or Volt Bolt plus any item card like Timer, Nest or Ultra Ball if we need or for example damage increase cards like Choice Band or Electropower.

This deck can set up fast, it can attack for a lot of damage and it can also disrupt our opponent’s with item lock and Let Loose ability.

Overall it is a great experience to play this deck and to own it in a personal deck collection. If you have a chance to use it, we recommend you to try it out on your local league events.
