When Blacephalon meets Charizard!

Hello Pokemon fans, it's Marijo from Pokemon TCG Center! As usual I'm back with another great deck! Today I was thinking about Blacephalon GX and I was so bored playing it with Naganadel that I ended up building a brand new Blacephalon GX deck with Charizard from Team Up. Now for those of you who are not familiar with Charizard, it’s a 150 HP stage 2 Pokemon with an ability that in my opinion is maybe even better then Naganadels ability. With Charizards Roaring Resolve ability, once during your turn you can put 2 damage counters on Charizard, and if we do that, we can search our deck for up to 2 fire energy cards and attach them to Charizard. It’s a double energy per Charizard in play and Charizard can also hit for big numbers! With only 2 energy attack cost, Continuous Blaze Ball can go for 30 + 50 more for each energy we discarded from Charizard in this way. So with only 2 energy cards attached to Charizard, Continuous Blaze Ball, the base damage will be 130. It can be increased even more with extra energy from you hand and with a Choice Band.

With 210 damage, Charizard can 1 HKO Zoroark, Lycanroc, Lucario, Blacephalon, and every other non GX Pokemon and trade one for two prize cards. It’s true he is a stage 2 Pokemon, but it’s not that hard to put a couple Charizards in play as long as we can set up a fast Magcargo with Smooth Over. As long as we have a Magcargo on our bench with Smooth Over, once per turn we can search our deck for any card and put it on top. We have a few options to draw the said card, first one is with Lillie, second is with Heat Factory and if that card is a trainer card, then we can even grab it with Jirachis Stellar Wish. Jirachi is another good tech for this deck. With a powerful Stellar Wish ability once during our turn, if Jirachi is our active Pokemon, we can look at the top 5 cards of our deck and if we find any trainer card there we can simply put it into our hand. So with Jirachi and Magcargo, there won’t be any problem trying to find Rare Candy or other item/supporter cards. Since both Charizard and Blacephalon must discard energy cards in order to use their attacks, some cards like Energy Recycler are a must have in this build.

Once we use the Blacephalon GX Mind Blown ability, we can’t recover discarded energy cards, since they go directly to the lost zone. I like the fact that we can take a free prize card with Burst GX. Once our opponent has managed to draw 2/3 prize cards, then we can start to use the extra acceleration with Beast Rings. Overall this deck won’t be fast on turn 2 like Naganadel due to Charizard being a stage 2 evolution, but if we can set up to two Charizards on our turn 2, then Blacephalon can 1HKO even a Tag Team Pokemon without many issues. Since we also have Choice Band and Beast Energy, damage can be increased even more with less energy cards discarded. If you are looking for a fun and competitive deck, especially if you are new to the game and you don’t know which deck to build, my advice would be Charizard with Blacephalon. 75% of those cards can be found in the Charizard theme deck with the exception of Blacephalon who is not as expensive as it was used to be. The most expensive cards in this deck are going to be two Jirachi’s but they are definitely a good investment for the future!
