Cosmic Eclipse is here – New mechanics for this era!

Hello everyone! This is Elena from Gaia Storm and welcome to another article here. As you all know, Cosmic Eclipse has already been released and the expectations couldn’t be higher. And that’s understandable since this will be our last set from the Sun&Moon era and players are excited to play this last stage of the format. But even more than that, there are some new cool strategies and cards that have their debut in this expansion so let’s take a look at the most interesting features of the set!

Since Pokémon introduced the Tag Team mechanic, the game has never been the same again because of the power that those combination brought. Now, a year after, we are getting Tag team Supporters which follows the same dynamic. The idea behind those cards (who always feature two iconic Pokémon characters) is that they have a decent effect but if you choose to pay a cost, which usually has to do with discarding some cards from your hand, you get an additional effect. That introduces a very interesting new angle to the game as players might choose to discard valuable resources in hand in order to get powerful secondary effects on the board.

An there is more to this. Cosmic eclipse explores the bonds between Trainers and Pokemon in a very original way. Some of the Pokemon cards will gain different effects depending if a certain supporter has been played that turn. For instance, there is the new Lunala and Solgaleo Tag team that gains immunity to all attacks if during Lillie’s Best Effort has been played in the same turn. And something very similar happens with the supporter N’s Resolve and Reshiram & Zekrom Tag team

In relation to this, there is a new card rarity in the set which is like a Full Art but for non-GX basic Pokémon. What’s great about those is that they feature a classic Pokemon with their trainer: Piplup, Torkoal, Gallage, Steelix, Mimikyu… I think those illustration are a perfect tribute to the saga as they are able to capture the essence of the link between people and Pokemon.

And of course, Cosmic also comes with incredible new cards that are going to impact heavily the way the game is played. Mega Lopunny, Charizard and Braixen, Chaotic Swell… the list is actually pretty long. But that’s something for another article! Remember to grab all your Cosmic Eclipse cards here at CCG before they fly! Thanks for reading!
